Accompanist Stephen van de Burgt was born and raised in the Fraser Valley, and began piano and organ lessons at the age of seven. He received his first appointment as church organist at the age of fourteen. He attended master classes with world-renown organists such as: Naji Hakim (France), Harald Vogel (Germany), Michael Radelescu (Austria), James Kibbie (USA), Carole Terry (USA), William Porter (USA), Jan Overduin (Canada) and Jonathan Oldengarm (Canada) among others. While studying at Wilfrid Laurier University's Faculty of Music with Marlin Nagtegaal, Stephen was awarded a position on the Dean's Honour Roll. He graduated with distinction in 2008, receiving a Bachelor of Music degree in Organ Performance. Stephen has received many scholarships and awards throughout his career including scholarships from WLU. He has also received gold and silver prizes at various festivals for organ and piano performance composition. Currently Stephen maintains a position as church organist and he also maintains a private studio where he teaches piano and organ. |
